  •  yes, whether the Democrats get a bounce or not (5+ / 0-)

does not seem all that important, except to demonstrate a sharp contrast between an unsuccessful party convention and a successful one.

All things being equal, President Obama is in better shape going into the fall campaign with the polls showing the race pretty much even. The electoral math, even with even national numbers, still favors president Obama.

Romney had four opportunities to turn the race around: his vice presidential choice, the convention, the debates and a possible "October surprise." He did not exactly hit the ball out of the ballpark with his vice presidential choice nor his convention. He would have to dramatically improve his debate and speaking skills to best President Obama in debates.

The only remaining way for Romney to turn things around, in my opinion, would be some kind of October surprise. It could be in the form of an avalanche of secret, corporate political money, starting Oct. 1 through election day, thanks to five of the most corrupt Supreme Court Injustices in American history (Scalia, Thomas, Alito, Kennedy & Roberts, in their Citizens United ruling/abomination/in-kind contribution to the Republican Party). My guess is that Romney is hoping beyond hope to simply purchase himself the presidencny with an avalanche of hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars targeted to just a few key swing states. Whether that works will remain to be seen.
