    for me.  I must say, YouTube is a blessing for me.  

    We need live performances.

    Once after several years of not playing (violin and viola) I had decided I needed to play again - as a therapist, I was getting ear infections and decided I needed music.  There was a TV concert with Perlman and Zuckerman playing Mozart.  I could not watch.  I needed to be playing.  I took out the violin, and with a missing string began to try to reassemble my playing.  There is an immediacy, I think it's the vibrations, to live music.  Including mistakes.  Try sitting in the middle of a symphony orchestra and you will see what I mean.

      I think a good model is Detroit. The DIA (a wonderful art museum) pitched a modest per-household tax, got it, and now made admission free. Attendance is way up because there's now buy-in and a sense of local ownership. And anything to make Detroit seem more livable
