    ...a standard 120v outlet will fully charge a Volt in about 10 hours; with the 240v charger it only takes about 4 hours.

    Much more convenient, sure, but I don't know that it's worth the extra $2,000 (w/installation) for the charger.

    •  If you want the 240v Option (0+ / 0-)

      Check with your local utility.  For instance Detroit Edison will give you a voucher up to 2500$ to install a charger and separate meter.  Then a cheap off peak rate, in the case of DTE it's .07$/kWH between 11pm  and 7am.  The smart meter they install then manages the charging based on your departure time.  It cost us $2200 to instal 2 charger the wiring etc..  So we paid 0$, and pay less for the charge.
