  •  Finished Disaster Was My God (4+ / 0-)

the most recent book from Bruce Duffy, a fictionalized life of Arthur Rimbaud.  Just as brilliantly written and imagined as his take on Wittgenstein from a decade and a half ago, The World As I Found It.  Two geniuses who could not be more different as men, but both come to life in Duffy's hands in a way that is nothing short of magical.

Just for good measure, I am now halfway through Last Comes the Egg, Duffy's actual follow-up to TWAIF, and a very different kind of novel.  This one is a coming of age tale of a 12 year old boy in Maryland in 1962 and is apparently somewhat autobiographical.  Slow going at first, as the prose is a bit difficult, and in a completely different voice than DWMG, but it's picking up.

On deck is NW from Zadie Smith and then Telegraph Avenue from Michael Chabon.  As per the article in today's NY Times, this fall is exploding with literary fiction.
