  •  Conservatives have an empathy deficit (13+ / 0-)

related to their compassion deficit. Empathy is too touchy-feely, too "feminine" (yeah, idiots believe idiotic things), too inconvenient, too whatever.

This deficit is not the result of their political philosophy. It is one of the major causes of it. It is obviously the result of something--perhaps an environment that relishes emotional oneupmanship or abuse--but I really don't know, other than a certainty that environment plays into it somehow.

Nevertheless, it isn't really surprising that they have come to this--nominating such an emotionally stunted candidate for President out of a field of characters almost as crippled, one utterly incapable of identifying with anyone less wealthy or privileged than he. Nothing I've heard of Romney makes me like him on a personal level, but I'm pretty sure he falls into the uncanny valley not because he is actually as robotic as he comes across, but because he is attempting to fake something he doesn't have and, as we all know, he is an absolutely lousy liar.

My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.
