  •  The obvious question to the (9+ / 0-)

"anyone I may have offended" line is "Who WOULD NOT be offended by that remark?" Really, by saying that he is acknowledging there are people who weren't offended by his initial crass remark. Sadly, there are people like that, but he shouldn't be worried about their feelings on the matter. Well, unless he is one himself but that's a whole other world of ugly.

If we got Mitt to be slightly less dishonest and gave him some personality he could pass as a used car salesman.

You have exactly 10 seconds to change that look of disgusting pity into one of enormous respect!

      •  I don't think that's any more appropriate (0+ / 0-)

than what he said.   As a former constituent, I don't recall ever reading anything that indicated he is prejudiced against Blacks, Jews or anyone other than Democrats.

Bartlett is an odd fellow - the first Congressman to join the Tea Party, he is unusual for a Tea Partier - he has driven a Prius for over a decade, has a house in West Virginia that is completely off the grid, using solar and wind power and, from his website,

Dr. Bartlett worked for more than twenty years as a scientist and engineer on research and development programs for the military and NASA. Nineteen of his 20 patents are held by the U.S. government for his inventions of life support equipment used by military pilots, astronauts, search and rescue personnel and firefighters.
He's a rare Tea Partier who is an actual scientist and believes in climate change.

Also interesting in the context of his original remarks about student loans

"Because of his commitment to philanthropy and the importance of education as a tool for success, Dr. Bartlett annually donates scholarships for district residents who are undergraduate students majoring in mathematics, science or engineering at the colleges located in Maryland’s Sixth District."
He originally ran on a platform of self-deportation, er, I mean, self-term limiting.  He said he would step down after three terms which would have been 14 years ago.  I do believe it is time for him to retire and hope the voters will help him along with that.
