  •  I walked out of the bank yesteday (23+ / 0-)

and said hi to a man who used to be a customer at one of my prior jobs.  After pleasantries, he asked "Are you better off than you were four years ago."  I told him without a doubt am I.  Then he asked if I was voting.  Told him that I always vote and am pretty sure we would be voting the same way.

A note: As I live in totally wingnut land, the sane folks have to be careful how they start a political conversation.  The wingnuts tend to think that if they yell loud enough you'll change your opinion.

    •  Yes you are so right about that, you have to be (0+ / 0-)

more low key and stay very calm when talking poliitcs and the person turns out to be a wingnut or a teahadist.  They think yelling , screaming, stomping around  is the way to win people over.

They also get very angry and throw tantrums. We know this guy who is an old friend and I will not talk to him about politics. But he tries to insert it in every conversation. He is a very conservative Teabagger. He gets so fired up, angry, he screams into the phone.
So, I just get off the phone. I love talking sports with him and I adore his parents who are quite elderly so this what I try to do to steer the conversation away from politics. I get off the phone if he starts screaming.
