now we're going to get into different levels of beating?

Isn't that like getting into different levels of rape? Like gee, forced raped, and real, not able to get pregnant rape, and maybe she really did enjoy part of it rape, etc.?

    •  Not the same, not at all (0+ / 0-)

Have you ever seen a woman hit a man saying, "Honey, I can't believe you said that!" Is that abuse? Rape doesn't have shades of gray, only in punishment handed down by the courts are those distinctions made. But not every form of physical contact can be considered abusive.

If we got Mitt to be slightly less dishonest and gave him some personality he could pass as a used car salesman.

Not if you read the words of the Prophet. That was the point I was trying to make. It's not shades of gray, it's "don't beat your wife". But sadly there are Muslims who don't follow that. As there are Christians who think the "rule of thumb" myth is real as well. But Robertson doesn't care for reality, he wants to drive an agenda and he's using bigotry to do so.

            here?

Anyone been around a battered wife?  I can assure you the sight is hideous, to say the least.

When the question was asked, everyone here would know (I hope) the the correct answer would be "whatever happens, do NOT EVER, EVER hit your wife"  And if a wife were to start striking a husband, then the husband (most likely being bigger and stronger) has an obligation to immediately leave the scene..... and when cooler head prevail, then that's the time to attempt rational verbal communication.

I don't understand what is so difficult about this?

And anyone thinking that this isn't going to cause some trapped wives harm..... think again.....

            •  probably because of what Pat said (0+ / 0-)

he is insinuating that Muslims beat their spouses (some do) and insinuating that the man should discipline his.

Pat is pretty virulently anti-muslim, among all the other things he's anti about, so this is par for the course for him

This is not only not nuance, but it isn't hard to grasp.

here we go with the nuance again......

maybe people with higher intelligence, such as I'm assuming those here on KOS, can after applying some thought figure out this nuance.....

But anyone seriously really think that below average, right-wing batshit-brained lunatic abusive men are going to be sitting around applying all of the nuance when their wives get out of line?

There are going to be women who are going to be hurt here...... and this despicable human being just gave them a green light - nuanced or not.....

                •  I didn't apply any nuance at all (0+ / 0-)

it is indeed possible to say exceptionally anti-Muslim things while winking and nodding that one should beat the uppitiness out of your wife at the exact same time. That is exactly what Robertson has done.

As for the green light? Please. Pat didn't give them that. A relative of my partners beat the ever loving fuck out of his wife almost up to his suicide two Christmases ago. he sure didn't get that from Pat. Again, this isn't hard. Spousal abuse is happening now regardless of any crap Pat Robertson is saying and it's a real problem.

I've seen domestic violence, I lived in it for more than a decade. But it was my mother who was the abuser. It gives me a different perspective on it. But that's not what I was pointing out. Pat Robertson is scum personified. He damn well knows that most people aren't going to the time or even care to understand what Islam actually says on the matter. And he's banking on that ignorance to promote his own agenda of "keeping your woman in line". It's that simple. But I felt the original comment I responded to needed the clarification of why the Islamophobes believe that Islam teaches violence against women is acceptable because it doesn't. That ignorance wasn't being addressed anywhere in the comments and I thought it was important.

    •  I wouldn't call "a light tap that leaves no (0+ / 0-)

      mark" a beating.

...now we're going to get into different levels of beating?
