If I am not mistaken, it was, at one time,
called the travelodge theater, with an adjoining
hotel/motel that was for a while a womens prison or
rehab/psych facility. The AZ state hospital
is just down the road one mile west.

That road would be Van Buren, or the 'Big V', as
the taxi drivers call it now, and was once the main
thoroughfare for Phoenix, lined with many cozy auto
courts and motor hotels with some great neon signs
that have sadly deteriorated and disappeared due to
suburban sprawl, and the other usual urban suspects
of time and neglect, and redevelopment and progress.
Way before all of the new freeways were built.

When I was very young, my family lived a half block
north and a block or three east of this theater.

Lots of great muy authentico Mexican food places now.
I am really hoping that Joe is finally, long last history by
the time I come for a visit around the holidays this year.

    Viva Penzone.

Thanks for all of your efforts.
