'And in one way, I can see it driving a lot of the cable TV "pundits" mad. What use are they, aside from pure entertainment, if their insights end up being irrelevant."

The pundits could use Silvers' analysis of the polling data to refine their own insights. But that would likely depend on what drives a pundit to be a pundit. Is it the sweet paycheck and recognition as some sort of celebrity? Or are they more interested in being accurate and offering knowledge through their opinions that go beyond a party's talking points?

Salesmen dont care if they are accurate, if they carefully weighed the data and came to a logical conclusion.  They only care about pushing a product.
That is why Kristol et al can be constantly wrong and not care at all.  That is not what they are paid for.

These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert to fleece the people, and now that they have got into a quarrel with themselves, we are called upon to appropriate the people's money to settle the quarrel. Abraham Lincoln

...influence mainstream thinking in baseball -- now it's old hat. I suspect the same thing will happen with Silver's methods.

A PALINDROME: Slip-up set in Utah. Trail, no? M. Romney -- odd! Elder an AMC man, a Red-led doyen. Mormon liar that unites pupils?
