  •  Excellent diary BUT..... (0+ / 0-)

while I wouldn't come even close to calling Nate a political hack can't we at least agree that Nate is a partisan?  After all, many of us here know Nate through his work as "poblano" here at DKOS back during the 2008 election and this isn't exactly a site for Republicans.

This is not to say that you can't be a partisan and be damned good at reading and interpreting the numbers.  I followed "poblano" pretty closely in 2008 and was amazed at how much he nailed everything during the primary season and the general election.  I didn't follow him that much once he left here and don't know how accurate his 2010 forecasts were, in say, the August time frame when you are far enough out to impact the way people vote.  But it seems that you can be a partisan and good (like Nate) or a partisan and bad (like Rasmussen) and Moe doesn't seem to understand that.

And yes, I understand that what Rasumussen does and what Nate does are totally different.

Anyway, nice diary and please excuse the nit pick regarding Nate's political affiliation.

    •  I'm not sure that I could call him partisan. (1+ / 0-)

      par·ti·san 1  (pärt-zn)
      n.
      1. A fervent, sometimes militant supporter or proponent of a party, cause, faction, person, or idea.
      2. A member of an organized body of fighters who attack or harass an enemy, especially within occupied territory; a guerrilla.
      adj.
      1. Of, relating to, or characteristic of a partisan or partisans.
      2. Devoted to or biased in support of a party, group, or cause: partisan politics.
      Militant? Not at all.
He doesn't attack or harrass- He does math.
And while his personal feelings may lean left, NOBODY's ever been able to show any bias in his work ( and Lord knows people have looked, and looked.)

I could call him " professional".

      But not partisan.

      •  Hmmmm, I will retract my statement (0+ / 0-)

Partisan has a stronger definition than I was aware of.  I would have thought that partisan was merely a supporter of a particular party but with the qualifiers of "fervent" or "sometimes militant" I would say it is inaccurate to describe Nate in this way.

        Thanks for the polite correction.
