His being "difficult" is EXACTLY WHY WE LIKE HIM.

Think about it for a minute.

What gets you that label in the media? Doing stories that nobody else wants to touch. Expecting people to do their jobs in a principled way. Not wanting to violate your own principles and ethics.

Bringing truth to the public when it is dangerous to do so.

Now if he had caved to the moneyed interests, and been a "good soldier" - would we have gotten what we needed? Would we miss him as much as we do??

Think about that for a while.

And by the way - when the lights went out at Current, he didn't complain, he didn't yell, and he didn't lash out publicly at Current or their owners. He simply asked them to fix it (quietly).

When they didn't, he COVERED for them. Told people he liked the set dark behind him (in a sense, he did - because leaving the set dark meant he had overhead lights, and those were essential).

I saw the technical glitches that plagued the show. I saw it when his throat was in trouble, but he still had to work a three hour segment - and then another in the same week. I heard his voice give out on the air, but he had to find a way to fight through it and act like nothing happened.

His "control room" was a truck, on the street. When they gave his show to Spitzer, he got a real control room.

They evidently didn't have money to fix the issues in his studio, but they had enough to hire several new people to host shows. Keith didn't complain about Current (those of us who paid close attention thought he was happy there - that's how well he covered). But Current leaked bad press about him to a right-wing newspaper, saying he was "disgruntled". How "progressive" is that??

They treated him poorly, as if they had no intention of keeping him - or hoped he would quit. He stayed, and worked hard - so they dumped him, figuring his reputation for being "difficult" would get them off the damned hook.

But there are enough of us out there who understand that the only reason we got truth during the Bush years was because this man fought for it. Because he put up with management attacks, death threats, and even a guy standing outside his apartment yelling nasty things about KO's "prowess" or supposed lack thereof.

He got a fake anthrax letter - still have to have his keys melted and his wallet burned.

But he didn't give up, and I will not give up on him, either, because I'm paying attention, and I know he's there for us, just as he has always been.

    You do what you want.
