  •  One House Democrat's opinion (4.00)
    I posted this comment yesterday.

My House Rep (Lois Capps D-CA) says:

President Bush has not violated the laws of the United States, and therefore has not committed an impeachable offense.

I argue that the Downing Street Memo is evidence that Bush violated Public Law 107-243 Section 3(b)1.

Despite the political hurdles, I think the key to impeachment is citing specific laws he has violated.  The Veterans for Peace have done this here.  If these violations are substantiated, the case for impeachment is strengthened.

Not your comment, of course, but the claim that no law was violated.

Article VI Clause 2 of the United States Constitution:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."

International treaties carry the same weight as the Constitution itself.

We've signed onto the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which itself prohibits waging a war like this.  Additionally, from the Principled of the Nuremberg Tribunal to the Kellogg-Briand Treaty, there's more than enough clauses which we violated with this war of aggression.

    •  Regarding appropriations.. (none)
Article 1, Clause 7.. No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.

Bush did not spend the money as it was intended when appropriated. He did not account for it, as stated must be done in the Constitution. That is illegal. You might inform your Representative that reading the Constitution is a good thing. Understanding it is even better.
