    Willard's statement is supposed to be taken as agreement or consent. It is the same kind of logic which used to hold that, if a woman was visibly injured in an assault, it wasn't a rape. "Personal responsibility" argues that a person is responsible for what his or her actions or inactions prompt someone else to do.
    Perhaps the intent of the Romney staff was to goad the President into an intemperate response. Willard's sense of self-importance is such that he considers himself entitled to a response.
    I do think Clint Eastwood channeled the conservative mind-set quite well, when he put intemperate language in invisible  Obama's mouth. It is because the president is not a bully that Clint calls him a "hoax."
