  •  The Republicans may have given up on the (7+ / 0-)

Presidency but not on controlling the government. The key to success in government according to Republicans is to do nothing and stop everything. The key battles are in the House and Senate. Can we retake the House and get rid of the filibuster, or at least amend it in the Senate. To fix the Bush tax cuts all we have to do is nothing. Let them expire on their own. Then in the new Congress discuss new tax policy. If Obama agrees to this that will tell us a lot. Of course it he negotiates a deal with Republicans in the lame duck that will tell us a lot also. The diarist has the right ideas. We can only hope that those in leadership are listening. Putting unemployed people back to work building things we desperately need is smarter than giving money to bankers who will either hoard it or use it to play leverage games. We need bridges fixed more than we need Merge and Acquisition activity. But that is what we have had for more than 30 years.
