" But to have a sense that we are going to win... well that gets people to say... "Well we are going to win so what does it matter if I show up"."

you have ANY evidence that people do that?  just because you did it.  maybe you need to be talking to yourself

Yeah, because people don't "coast" in their electoral decisions or any other part of their lives.

I'm sorry but what color is the sun in the universe in which you live.

Sorry to bum you out with a call for urgency and GOTV.

    •  Yes, there are people that don't show up (10+ / 0-)

An example is in my small town, mayor election  In the primary everyone assumed the favorite Republican would win and a lot of people didn't show up.  he lost the primary by 7 votes and a Tea Party hack ended up winning the primary and then the election.  I'm in a VERY red area and there wasn't even a Democrat running.  I knew people that were stunned and regretting that they didn't vote in that primary.

There are a lot of people that register that don't vote.  And in all this coverage about voter suppression there were diaries about thousands that left because of long lines in Pennsylvania.  I'm not sure if what year that was.

That's one reason TV stations are not supposed to announce a winning candidate until all polls are closed -- because people out west might not vote.

it's great that you are enthused, but there are many people that aren't.  It's not only the President, but down ballot races that we need to work for.
