Economy crashes.  We ain't having that edge this year.

I'll take a three point lead but it's dropped a point a day for four days and that's not noise.

It's just disappointing.  WTF will it take to get a solid five point lead that lasts? How much crappier can Romney get and still be in the chase?

      •  and in 2008, Obama was never consistently over 50% (0+ / 0-)

in Gallup. In fact, unlike this year, it took until early October for Obama to get to 50%.

You should really stop following the tracking polls. They're just going to upset you. If you're panicking because a post-convention bounce only took us to the magic number for a few days and then left us in a stronger position than we were a month ago, those inevitable +1 R's and -1 O's between now and election day are just going to drive you crazy.

Will this be closer than 2008? Yes. Romney's floor is higher than McCain's, but like McCain, he's struggling to improve on it.

Is 48-45 Obama with Romney consistently struggling to get out of the mid-40's a good sign? Yes.

Did everyone realize that we were unlikely to maintain our post-convention high between now and November? For the most part, yes.

...Obama blows Mitt out of the water in OH and PA because if he doesn't, those states will most likely mysteriously go red if the vote totals are close enough. Remember their Secretaries of State and governors are back in GOP hands... Always remember how 2000 and 2004 were stolen - made easier because the vote counts were too close.
