An unarmed mob protested and breached the embassy in Egypt in reaction to that stupid movie.  An armed "Al Qaeda-like" terrorist group killed four Americans at a consulate (not an embassy) in Libya, in a planned attack, for motives unrelated to the movie.  I'm not sure what "beneficiaries of Arab Spring" could have done to stop the attack.

The Egypt protests (and Mitt Romney's reactions to them) are a story because similar protests have erupted in other Arab countries, whereas the circumstances surrounding the Libya tragedy are much more localized.  I agree that the focus on Mitt Romney is silly, but that's because he won't shut his mouth.

terrorists breached the Saudi embassy in DC.  Libya was obliged to protect our consulate.  They did not.  That's inexcusable.

      •  PS: Like it makes a difference if it (0+ / 0-)

was a consulate.  What kind of B.S. is that?  Americans are still dead.  We shouldn't have to worry that people will go batshit and kill our diplomats every time a YouTube video or a cartoon comes out.  F#ck their sensitivities.  We shouldn't even be giving that the time if day.

The attack in Benghazi was not motivated by the stupid reaction to the stupid movie.  The consulate was a prior target of a local Libyan terrorist group.

And yes, the security should have been much better.  I'm not debating that.  But this was a sophisticated attack from an organized group, and consulates tend to be easier targets than embassies (it's not a trivial difference).

You're acting as if the Libyan government and Libyan people hate America.  I don't know to what extent that's true, but based on the reactions from Libyans to the attack, there are many in that country who still appreciate America stepping in to remove Qaddafi.

          •  They need to protect us. I don't care if they (0+ / 0-)

love us.   They need to show us that they respect us.  There is a difference.
