  •  And it's the exact same position as the President (0+ / 0-)

who also uses that exact same dividing point when he talks about taxing "the rich."

If "the rich" is $200,000 (for one income households) or $250,000 (for two income households) as the President says, then what are people below that?

      Severely comfortable?

you are still talking about people who need to get up to go to work every day to pay their mortgage, pay for their children's college, and put something away for retirement.

When you are talking that for household income, you are talking about two people each making say $75,000.  That's well paid, certainly, but not rich.  As we've been reminded, that's about the "average" salary of a Chicago schoolteacher.  So, you could be talking about a 20 year teacher married to a 20 year police officer.

They can probably take some trips to Disney World, buy cars new instead of used, and have a little bit bigger house, but they certainly are not living the lifestyle of the rich and famous.  No yachts, private jets, etc.

The guy makIng 250k a year has a stay at home wife. The mortgage he's carrying on his multi million $ house is $1,000,000.  The college he's sending his kids to is Yale.

So for fucks sake please just STOP trying to excuse Mitt Romney. Someone making $250k a year is NOT middle class.  unless you stretch the definition of middle class to include 95% of the population which would redefine the word middle to mean mostly everyone.

          •  DisNoir - I know a lot of families (0+ / 0-)

making $250,000/yr because both parents work, they do have a $1.0+ million mortgage, a skinny 401K and their kids aren't going Ivy because they can't afford it and at their income level there is no financing help. Where I live a family income of $250,000 does not make you rich by any means. This has nothing to do with Mitt Romney who has annual income two orders of magnitude higher.

            "let's talk about that"
