  •  Romney also said $100k is not middle income. (0+ / 0-)

So what did he mean by that?  I don't think even he knows.  Do you think Obama would have answered that question the same way?

Like McCain who though you weren't rich unless you made somewhere around $5 million, I can guarantee that Romney has no clue or care for those minor distinctions below $250k and that's really the point.  Even if he has the tax brackets memorized, he has no experience as a point of reference for living with that kind of income.  That is a big part of why he wouldn't think to answer that question any other way.

I think it's safe to say that Obama, having actually worked on policy is well aware that the $250k mark represents 98% of the people in this country, that the median income is around $50k, that the poverty level is around $23k and is far more in touch with the distinctions and levels of income most Americans make having actually been one of those Americans not so long ago.

When you look at the president's experience vs. Romney's the distinction between Obama's ceiling and Romney's floor is important and crystal clear.  Romney has never lived anywhere near that floor and has shown no empathy for people below it.

If Romney had even the slightest concern for middle income people, he might have thought it important to demonstrate that he has any understanding of what it's like earning middle class wages.  But he didn't and that's the important story!
