      what you are saying.

      but it's just incorrect to say that somebody isn't rich because they are choosing to live in a place that costs more rather than a place that costs less, and because their children go to more expensive schools.

      Those things are luxuries that most cannot afford; that you choose to spend your money that way doesn't take away from the fact that you are rich.

        that being able to afford luxuries doesn't make you rich if that ability depends on your holding a job, as opposed to holding income-producing paper. Many well-paid, well-living people are only months away from a serious change of circumstances, because their standard of living still depends on their sellng their skilled labor or expertise for what someone else is willing to pay. That's different from a guy like Romney, who calls himself unemployed but has an income of $20 million a year.
