    Let's see, some 220 nations on Earth, some with as many as 5 consulates plus the embassy. 100 extra Marines in each.

    Hell, we'd just have to expand the USMC by 75,000 men or so. It's a snap!

    Then of course the attack would just land on a business, or a school, or some other American facility. Because you just cannot build an impregnable point defense around every exposed facility or American citizen.

    Not to mention perhaps a local Ambassador does not want to exist behind a seamless wall of security. Some Ambassadors might think direct contact with the local citizens is critical to the mission. We'll just micromanage that concern away from D.C.

      parking a whole bunch of Marines in the middle of an embassy compound is painting a huge target on the embassy for opportunistic suicide bombers.
