  •  That isn't funny... (8+ / 0-)

it's just sad and twisted. Even if these people don't care about all of the innocent people we would be murdering in the Middle East with a nuke, don't they realize that we would also suffer? Stupid question...they hate science! Of course, they've never heard of nuclear fallout, or any of the other consequences of a nuclear attack.

That's what's really disturbing. One idiot is easy to just ignore, but there are thousands of these people.

These are the things people come up with to relieve their frustration with not knowing the first damn thing about anything, whatsoever.

      •  Tell me about it... (4+ / 0-)

One of my older brothers (I have three) moved to Idaho with his wife 10 years ago, and under the influence of his in-laws, has become a Glenn Beck-loving right-winger. I have never heard him suggest we nuke anybody, but that could be because I refuse to discuss politics with him.

as soon as that is done another culture will be focused on for the same treatment.

    •  Well, it could be, in a different context, a (0+ / 0-)

sarcastic expression of frustration with the ME.
"Dr. Strangelove" pokes sarcastic humor at a very serious subject, for instance.
In this context, it's associated with a generally atavistic, racist, fascist mindset that is the real danger.
It's the kind of thing that would appeal to a 15-18 yr. old male, esp. and to the "puerae aeternae" who have been pandered to and privileged in the Bush years, (esp. since they're the ones who've been manipulated into being shipped off to Iraq and Afghanistan. Women have also increasingly been used in combat or close proximity to combat, which is one of the few sustained consequences of the feminist revolution, and its own subject worth a discussion of its own ).
What is needed is for a new model of masculinity that will encompass the remedies for misogyny, gun worship, and aggression toward the "others".
There is a discussion to be had on the feminine side, as well, in that the broader sense of identity, behavioral norms and what constitutes "in a woman's best interests" is still in flux and will be for some time. Right now the choice for both genders is between a caricatured and stylized past and an uncertain, unsettled future.

You can't make this stuff up.
