... as a sex offender.  There really isn't any excusing this man's actions here.  If he solved world hunger and then groped a woman - he committed a sex crime and he should bear ALL of the consequences.

As for hunting, if he's man enough to grope an inebriated, unwilling woman, he's man enough to grapple with whatever he wants to eat and kill it with his bare hands.

I haven't been here long enough to be considered a Kossack, does that mean that I'm just a sack?

No one is trying to excuse this guy's actions, and I am certainly not arguing that his prior job or supposed good works should save him from the consequences of this action.

I am merely asking if the punishment here doesn't already fit the crime, especially for a first-time offender. Putting emotion out of situation, what benefits society the most?

And as for the sex offender thing, the question is whether he is dangerous or likely to perform this kind of behavior in the future. The sex offender registry (should not be) a punitive punishment, it is there to protect people. If he is unlikely to commit this kind of offense in the future, it is inappropriate to assign him to the registry.

... was a police officer.  This is a man who has full knowledge of the law and has sworn himself to uphold it.  He knew that his actions were improper, but that did not stop him.  Society also benefits when those who are trusted to defend it are given the full penalty for violating that trust.

Evans also pinched another woman on the buttocks an hour before sexually abusing the victim in this case, according to a witness. The judge ruled before trial that the incident would be prejudicial if it was allowed to be admitted as evidence.
