Even many pro-choice people hear about that, and think, "Those women must be being totally irresponsible.  I mean, one unplanned pregnancy is one thing, but two?  Or three?  Or four?"

What they don't realize is that the failure rate for birth control methods that the average woman who is sexually active with men and using birth control will have, over the course of her reproductive years, TWO unplanned pregnancies.

    That's the average.

Of course, many women go months or years without a male sexual partner; some never have one.  Some women spend years off birth control, hoping or actively trying to get pregnant.  And some women decide, with varying degrees of enthusiasm, to carry unplanned pregnancies to term.  (And some are forced or coerced to do so.)

None of that changes the fact that multiple birth control failures is NORMAL.  It is to be expected.  It doesn't require "sluttiness" or "irresponsibility", it doesn't require being "stupidity" or "mistakes".  It happens.

Which is just another reason why I am 100% pro-choice, and don't like the "rare" language.  Because accidental pregnancies are not rare, and we shouldn't, as a matter of policy, force half the population to continue unwanted pregnancies just to assuage our biological ignorance.
