The original basis was racial, but the conservative movement learned long ago how to divide and conquer by manipulating people to fear and hate whatever group they want based on otherness. Now, they can get some people to hate others based on completely fabricated "differences".

As for whether the conservative movement will survive: of course it will. Conservatism, and all the related whackadoodle du jur will always exist because it serves the interests of the powerful. It is like an aggressive cancer - it may be in remission for a while but at some point, when we are weak, it will matastasise again. We must never forget that.

if someone is black. You can't always tell by looking at someone if they are gay or liberal. Racism is hands down in the driver's seat.

What I was getting at is the legacy of slavery has skewed our view of people generally. It is an instantaneous, unconscious categorization our culture has implanted in all of us to some degree. Whether or not we embrace that impulse and act in bigoted ways is anther question. But dividing all others into "one of us" or "one of them" is a stain we may never wash out. The neat boxes this creates in small minds compel some to create more boxes for the less visibly different, from LGBT to democrats or  Yankees fans. but it is born of the racist current in our culture, no doubt about it.

R-Money/R-Ayn, the ENRON Ticket, is not a campaign; it's a hostile takeover bid.
