    It was renamed Zuccotti Park in 2006 in honor of John Zuccotti, Chairman of Brookfield Properties, which owns the land.  Not saying the name change was merited, but it had nothing to do with OWS.

      Zuccotti, I don't know. I live here and NO ONE EVER called it Zuccotti, ever, before OWS. Ever. The name Zuccotti was not even known to anyone I know. No one calls it Zuccotti now. The media had a choice: to call the park by the name it is known by locally or to call it by a name no one has ever heard of. They chose a name no one has ever heard of. It is Liberty Square to me and always will be.
