  •  That is a different problem altogether (5+ / 0-)

Occupy helped changed the message, enough that Obama needs to at least sound concerned.  Where we are now politically is a decision about  the speed at which we move backward and how much it will hurt.  Romney represents going as fast as possible without a cushion over a cliff.  Obama is promising a slower rate toward the cliff and a small parachute that may help some.  Avoiding the cliff by turning left is currently not an option, there is a slight chance it could happen if Democrats are in charge, and no chance at all if Republicans are in charge.

The problem is we have twin failures occurring simultaneously that are connected to each other.  Our economic failure is continuing, we were not right economically before the crash but the bubbles hid most of that from view.  The reason our economic system is broken is our government is broken.  We have had government of the 1% by the 1% and for the 1% for decades now and simply changing the power from one party to the other will not fix it.  There needs to be a concerted effort within the Democratic party to reform itself, to stop being a party on defense against Republicans but on offense for the poor and middle classes.

I especially agree with your concluding remarks.

      •  Many who voted for Obama won't be in '12 (0+ / 0-)

I've heard this from too many people who will sit out this election - or vote 3rd party.  WOn't matter much in NY - truth is all that really counts is a few counties in a few swing states.

But my point is that Obama TALKED onte game and played another - and people NOTICED.

Yeah, the Prez can't 'prosecute' but he has one hell of a bully pulpit and Obama was voted in on a surge of voter dissatisfaction with the previous 8 years. It would have been EASY to put pressure on banks and Wall Street - there are MANY ways to get leverage - look at what happened to Spitzer - and Wall Street is the biggest consumer of hookers and coke in NY.   Nevermind all the compliance officers who NEVER heard from ANY prosecuters (Countrywide anyone?)/  How is it Edith OBrien has been able to refuse to answer any questions - no pressure at all there?  WTF?   MF Global was a blatant crime - and there's NO GROUNDS for prosecution?

        Obama DIDN"T EVEN TRY

THe 'moved on - when people WANTED accountability.

People were NOT prosecuted, they were REWARDED.

Life isn't fair but you should try to leave it fairer than you found it.
