And he had been primaried to within an inch of his political viability by Ted Kennedy.

And the stock market sucked, interest rates were obscene, and a bunch of helis crashed in the Iranian desert.

Every night they signed off with the number of days that the US embassy staffers had been held by the Iranians.  That went on for the entire campaign, not just before.  Nightline never stopped noting it.  How could Carter's seeming fecklessness be ignored with that?  Of course, the revelations that Reagan-Bush had conspired with the Iranians with their own private foreign policy was rapidly forgotten in the days following St. Ronnie Ray-gun's inauguration.  Except for Cronkite, we've never had a liberal media.  We had a media which used to tell the truth and the truth had a liberal bias, which is anathema to true believers.

          with the hostages too.

Carter did not project strength and resolve.  He was a Debbie Downer too.

Obama is not Carter, and Willard ain't Ronnie.  The entire attempt at comparison is complete bullshit.

not to release the hostages until 30 minutes after Reagan had been sworn in -- Bush Sr. went there to do the negotiations. Then they blasted Carter day after day for being too weak to get the hostages home. It was absolutely shameless. And the same people and their proteges are still in the saddle. I'm sure they would provoke something like this, if they were well-organized and competent enough to pull it off.
