I thought the camouflage of the two candles on the table was perfect. But the camera must not have had a reflective lens . . .

basically the size of the head of a pin, and not reflective much and basically wide angle and great depth of field. Regular cameras have shrouding and flat black surrounds that helps guard against reflections - but for surveillance purposes you accept a lower level in exchange for secrecy.

I have a small camera that will record for almost 24 hrs on batteries  to a 32Gb micro SD drive that is smaller than a pack of cigarettes, displays no activity lights when it's turned on and is flat black. I could just leave it on the desk and no one would know. A Pen Camera in your pocket would arouse no suspicion, but you have to figure out how to focus on what you want. Some capture audio as well, some not.

My point is that, while  cell phone cameras are ubiquitious, you are obviously recording something when you use them... but you could choose a different camera that was not very obvious and go home with your video and without hassle in a public space.

Do I like this circumstance? no, not really. But I use the box described above clipped to my sunvisor when I drive. I have my own "dashCam" and get a full accounting of everything I saw during my drive. And if I get pulled over for some reason by the police, I have my own copy of "the facts".

Fifteen years ago I was writing GPS Software and had a GPS tracking unit in my car all the time, recording and saving data. I beat/discredited a traffic ticket that alleged that I did something I didn't using that system, and it cost nothing to just have it there and let it run....

      •  Excellent backgrounding - best thanks BC (0+ / 0-)

Head of a pin - not reflective - wide angle and depth of field. Walker Evans didn't need these, but that was a different era.

No one, as the Guardian says somewhere, likes to hear (and now see) what people they know may be saying about them behind their backs.

that cameras and microphones are inherently neutral....They will show that what was said was, in fact said... or they will show (if not edited by James O'keefe) that what was alleged WAS NOT SAID or done. Thus the virtue of unedited, continuous, timestamped  video recording.

And It is quite possible, if you know anything about digital image formats, to detect if a digital video has been fucked with and is not original.....

There are companies that sell Baseball caps with a video recorder in the top of the cap.... totally hidden and running for hours...just think about that, in a public setting....for collecting the truth...

Good to hear about the virtues of unedited continuous timestamped video. Now lawyers must need IT specialists.
