  •  It is a long way to election day and in a rational (4+ / 0-)

world, this thing would be over, however, the world is not rational.  Anything could still happen and I remember a line from Hunter Thompson's "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail" from the 1968 election when he woke up on election morning and wrote something like " Yesterday, the American people showed themselves to be 220 million used car salesmen" as a way of explaining how perceived economic self interest among the low information voter could have elected Nixon.

The American electorate is a fickle beast and this thing is still not over.  There are those who if they thought that Romney was a complete asshole, but would put an extra $10 dollars in their pocket, would vote for him im a second.  With them, it is all about economic self interest and even though we talk about how things are economically better under the Democrats, all they want are tax cuts, even though most of them go to the rich.

    •  Unlike George Bush who promised a $300 check (0+ / 0-)

(unless you were a millionaire, then you would get $10's of thousands) Mitt isn't promising anyone anything. To the contrary, it is all about austerity, they are not even putting on a show with Ryan as VP. It is like the message is finally getting through to the voters - you just don't count.
