  •  Yeah, I thought that was one of the best (4+ / 0-)

    lines on the tape, too.

Didn't he say he had some stock to sell during college? No, it was Ann. When she tried to say they knew about struggling in college when they lived off some stock Mitt had.

    •  Not even that... (4+ / 0-)

IIRC, she said things were so tight that they almost had to sell some stock...

I think we'd all like to have such fiscal dire straits...

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.

Ann Romney in 1994: When Mitt Romney was running for Senate in 1994, his wife gave a candid interview with Jack Thomas of The Boston Globe, published October 20, 1994. She told Thomas that after their Hawaii honeymoon, Mitt transferred to Brigham Young University. Back then, she still thought of that time as tough. But she wasn't as good at describing it, suggesting that it was rough living off stock options:

"They were not easy years. You have to understand, I was raised in a lovely neighborhood, as was Mitt, and at BYU, we moved into a $62-a-month basement apartment with a cement floor and lived there two years as students with no income... Neither one of us had a job, because Mitt had enough of an investment from stock that we could sell off a little at a time."

        Oh, horrors, a cement floor.

but he didn't inherit it, so it doesn't count.

      •  Oh, well. There you go. (1+ / 0-)

Dad gave it to be, but I didn't inherit it. I didn't inherit anything.

        Thanks, Mitt. We get it.

George Romney may not have called Bain and asked him to hire Mitt directly, but this is what Bain recalled about his first meeting with Mitt:

From the moment they’d first met, Bill Bain had seen something special, something he knew, in Mitt Romney. Indeed, he had seen someone he knew when he interviewed Romney for a job in 1977: Mitt’s father. “I remember [George] as president of American Motors when he was fighting the gas guzzlers and making funny ads So when I saw Mitt, I instantly saw George Romney. He doesn’t look exactly like his dad did, but he very strongly resembles his father.” /blockquote>
