  •  Oh really. Care to share the details? (0+ / 0-)

    links?

    •  I don't think anyone here is required (9+ / 0-)

to provide you with years of news stories and analysis just because you haven't been paying attention.

There are plenty of people on both sides interested in peace. But the holy land is a very small place, and it's quite easy for extremists to hijack the situation, either directly or indirectly. It's doubly hard for locals to engage in reconciliation when major players in the region and around the world fund many of these extremist groups.

      •  Years of news stories? You mean one promise after (0+ / 0-)

another of talks, negotiations, pacts and agreements for decades that have amounted to zip, zilch, nada?

        Those news stories?

Yeah.. I started reading them during the Carter Administration, thank you.

But I've seen nothing recently.  Have you?  Any overtures from either Israel or Palestine?

Has our current administration proposed something I am not aware of?

Romney is just saying what we all know to be true - the leaders of those countries are not serious about negotiating peace terms.

          amounted to zip, zilch, nada?
Are you being intentionally obtuse or are you really this dense?

Look, just one example, the transfer of authority to the West Bank and Gaza strip. To some that might be

          zip, zilch, nada?
but when it happened it was huge. Still a long way to go, but also a long way from
          zip, zilch, nada?
The rest of your logic is pure fail.

        •  You've changed your frame, haven't you. (3+ / 0-)

Your first comment was an over-arching general statement that implied nobody had ever tried to make anything better, ever. That's what we were responding to.

Now you're narrowing to this administration? Of what country? Now you're only talking about "leaders"?  and "Recently"?

There's certainly a stalemate right now, absolutely. And I doubt even Bibi's family pets like him very much. But there are also people working toward peace on the Israeli side, even if they don't control the Knesset at the moment, and on the PA side, we actually have what may be the administration with the most potential to actually handle a peace agreement in history. A shin bet or mossad guy spoke out about this recently, it was in the news, and warned about squandering the opportunity. I'm sure you can google it.

And you know, nobody said this wouldn't be hard.

You're trying to create a false equivalence IMHO.
