Hard negotiating by both sides until a deal is worked out.

Repubs started up the car, hit the throttle and sent it over the cliff, and now they're complaining that the black guy hasn't fixed it fast enough.

    •  Exactly. Some people here think (0+ / 0-)

that going head to head with some union bosses is akin to being a "union breaker". That verbiage made some sense in the context of a live strike in which people are trying to drum up support. You make shit up in order to sway public opinion. But it's over now. It is time to get on with getting on. Rahm Emanuel is a Democrat, and while he may disagree with us on some issues, he's not the enemy.

Remember to tip your waitress. He'll be here all week.

This isn't Nebraska. This is Chicago Illinois. Democrats in Chicago Illinois do not try to break unions and privatize public schools.

        •  The union is just fine. (0+ / 0-)

Did he break it, did he destroy it forever? No, he negotiated a deal with it. The union will survive all of us. The meme of "help, they're breaking our union" is just a meme, invented by the union for the purpose of generating support. It's smart politics, and I commend them for it. But it's a problem if some people actually believe it.

          •  Negotiations (0+ / 0-)

There's negotiation, then there's adopting and aggressively promoting Republican talking points about unions while gleefully demonizing teachers. By a "democrat". In Chicago. Where the teachers' union originated.

Here's to this leading to one term for Rahm.

    •  No (5+ / 0-)

Teachers should not feel that they have been pushed so far that they have to strike. A strike should not be a normal part of the process. Yes, negotiations and concessions from both sides are normal, but Rahm pushed the teachers way too far for it to get this bad.
