  •  I think it's more a case (21+ / 0-)

of wanting to get into new markets and facing blowback. (My spouse said there may have been some pressure from franchisees, especially outside the deep South.)

I can deal with a position of "strict neutrality" when it comes to donations -- no political organizations of any kind, maybe just to educational or community sports programs or something. Still likely won't eat there that often, but if the owner wants to be an asshat that's his affair; I just don't want my money going to fund hate groups. And I'll give it some time to make sure this really is the case.

For some reason these business owners who fight against people's constitutional rights, are just not that trustworthy.

As you said, time will tell.

    •  My sentiments exactly. (11+ / 0-)

What pissed me off most about the whining of the fundies and the teabaggers was that, somehow, we were denying Dan Cathy his "right to free speech".

I knew for years that Cathy was a fundie, and, while I don't approve of that attitude, I still ate at Hate-Fil-A from time to time without giving his politics and bigotry much thought. Whatever. But when I found that my money was being funneled through him to some of the most pernicious hate groups in the country, that changed things.

And like you, I'll be giving it some time too. I won't be rushing headlong out to Hate-Fil-A to buy a greasy chikin sammich today, for example. A few months from now, when one of my inexplicable desires for grease, additives, and salt kicks in while I'm driving past my neighborhood Hate-Fil-A, I may just stop in and indulge my momentary quest for bad health. ;-)
