  •  I really agree with this. (17+ / 0-)

Haven't seen much of Al, my sense is he has his following and the appeal for that audience is important. Obama needs the AA turnout to rival '08 if we are going to overcome the voter suppression crap.

Ed does have the blue collar base and coming just before Rachel, he may well be funneling some viewers to her that are contributing to the numbers. That is a group that needs to feel confident about themselves to listen to new information, especially if it gets complicated. (Discovered in Poli Sci research) Ed does that, because he makes the arguments they want to (with the volume and spirit they like) about subjects that are important to them. He fills in the facts and reasoning so they can make the case for their friends and coworkers.

Having been fired up and ready to go by Ed, Rachel is the perfect host to follow him. Gets those viewers tuned in to her great explanations, wit and perspective on subjects and events out of their comfort zone.  Like Obama, a really smart person who is honestly humble about it with regular folks. Which endears her to them. This is a group that is understandably sensitive about how smart the are and aren't.  Been teaching them health care issues since '77, boil it down to something that is not hard to grasp, and they really respect and appreciate you.

Because knowledge IS power, if you understand it well enough to use it.

Well it will be interesting to see how this continues, the debates should help. After the election, when we need to keep the pressure on DC, having more people tuning into MSNBC that FOX will sure help. Especially if cry baby squeaks in to keep the gavel.
