"Godwin's Law" is the claim that the longer an internet discussion goes on, the likelihood increases that somebody will call their opponent a Nazi by saying something like, "That's just like something Hitler would say."

It's not an actual honest to god law that you violate when you draw a serious parallel between political parties. Obviously, casual comparisons to Hitler are pretty ridiculous, but that doesn't preclude serious, thoughtful discourse like this diary. If people are actually behaving in a way that is reminiscent of Hitler, I think one should be allowed to say so.

Yet, people still reference to it like it is some sort of civil law that they have to take seriously. It was just a snide observation about the way assholes argued with each other on newsgroups during the internet-before-it-was-the-internet days--not something we must abide by in all Nazi-related conversations.

"There's an iPad 3 and a Mitt Romney 4 now. They've worked the bugs out. He's not killing hobos at night anymore." Jack Donaghey "If I were a hobo, I'd be damned nervous right now." sagesource
