I could not stand to hear Miles Davis when I forst heard him.  I think it was Live/Evil.  I had a jazz musician friend in college that loved Miles and played him every chance he got.  I was into CTI albums in the early 70s.  IN the back room at a house party, I heard "Kind of Blue" and I jumped up from my nod and demanded to know who is that?  I have been able to "hear" Miles and others every since that night.  Still love CTI and Kudo music of that time, but I surely know the difference between the McCoy Tyner of "Sunflower" and Tyner of "A Love Supreme" and "Sahara".
