are an old, falling apart Fannie Farmer cookbook that's my go-to for basic recipes.  I wouldn't be without it.  I also have a book called Potluck for 33,000.  It's a collection of recipes from the employees of Marshall-Fields/Dayton Hudsons.  There are some really great recipes.
Everything I've made out of it has been very well-received.  And my last can't-live-without-it cookbook is The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger.  For years, now, I tend to go to when I want a recipe.  I like that there are so many choices for each dish so I can almost always find something that calls for the ingredients I have, and reading the comments ensures that I'm much more likely to have a successful result.

For dinner tonight, we had leftover beef stew.  I decided to make pasties last week, and I had leftover filling so I added some peas and gravy and made a beef stew.
