Celebrities pretty much always win elections. In California we have lots of those. As a serious question who would be the last 'star' that lost one ? Have any ?

but he only lost after serving a term as US Senator from California. For those of you unfamiliar with the songs of Tom Lehrer, Murphy was a famous Hollywood song-and-dance man of the 1930s and 40s.

The same is true Helen Gahagan (who played the title character in the 1935 classic production of H. Rider Haggard's She), who served three terms as a Congressperson from California but then lost in the 1950 Senate election to none other than Richard Nixon. She was unusual for a star-turned-politician in that she was a very progressive Democrat. She is also mentioned in Tom Lehrer's song "George Murphy" (as is Reagan, by the way.)
