    If you want to be disabused of the notion that Europe is somehow inherently intellectually and morally superior to the US, you need to get out of the household name centers of culture.  Go into the suburbs to find tract housing full of the kind of sheltered yet insecure middle class types who dutifully vote for the right and can't understand why nothing gets better.  Further out into the countryside you'll find a whole lot of gubmint-hatin' subsidy junkies who are angry at just about everyone.

    To those who say the New Deal didn't work: WWII was also government spending

      a lower middle class hotel in an upscale enclave like Deauville. Even with my pidgin French and the proprietress's pidgin English, some interesting points were made. There is real rage at the banker's shenanigans.
