Where we live, people are once again afraid that their guns will be taken away and they are or were buying.

They were grumbling when they couldn't buy as many bullets, as there was a shortage and the prices were elevated.

You really would not believe where we live.
People are armed to the teeth.
We have neighbors we critter-sit for and they invite us over for a barbeque right before they leave on vacation and the guy loves to show us his guns.
And he has some incredible fire power.

We meetup with neighbors on our walks, and they show us their guns, or did.
    They are always carrying.
We had a neighbor stop to say 'Hey' and on the passenger seat was a gun with a box of bullets.
He was going out to plink or practice.
Even the women, the little old ladies, are packing.

We're sort of rural, but I've never seen anything like it.

I must admit that there are some that say they never vote and I seriously doubt that any of them have actually given to a political campaign.
They spend their money on guns and ammo - not that there's anything wrong with that.

    All we need is LOVE!

    •  With all those guns and fire power, they must be (6+ / 0-)

very afraid, but of whom?  Criminals? Minorities?  With people who are always armed to the teeth and packing heat wherever they go, I often wonder such things.

And people with several guns, other than the collectors who have always been around,  but suddenly arming themselves and hoarding guns, what is that all about?

Are some paranoid and prone to conspiracy theories?  But fear is a strong motivator but fear also robs us of joy and peace which is vital to happiness and healthy living and long life.

There is something very seriously wrong with that.

They are paranoid and deluded and have serious issues. I don't care if they live in wide-open Libertarian Arizona. They have issues.

I guess it depends on if you know you're dealing with a paranoid wingnut or not. I suppose collecting guns in an of itself isn't bad (not my thing, though), if you were simply a history buff, military buff, etc. I can relate to that.

But gun collecting + paranoid right-wing delusions = BAD NEWS.

      - why no country will likely try to fight a conventional war on American soil in the foreseeable future.

World in Conflict where Soviet Russia doesn't fail but instead invades America?  Yeah, they sure as hell didn't enter from the South.
