There are 2, yes TWO, high powered RW hate radio stations in Milwaukee and no moderate or liberal stations.  I have to stream them on the computer.

The other thing they have is a well coordinated email campaign.  I often receive that much forwarded crap which is so maddenly wrong I am compelled to click on Reply All and start typing away.

a bunch of them - i know there are some useful alerts in there but i feel like i'm wasting my time and small money as long as the dem party allows a few talking points repeaters blast over us without a real strategy to address that problem directly. there's a weekend and part time blowhard in my state's giant limbaugh megaphone who is a total moron who's going to be able to undo the work of hundreds of volunteers working for the dem part here. things are better than in previous elections because of the incidental and increasingly regular mention of the name limbaugh in derogatory and corrective ways but they will still be doing huge damage , basically for free, on behalf of the GOP keeping congress.

      •  The emails I get have been forwarded (0+ / 0-)

and reforwarded by people who get them from other people.  They're identical, but sent by different people which tells me that they start out in the same place perhaps with different email addresses as senders (not an organization) and then get spread out like disease.

Snopes does a good job of debunking the nonsence, but people who forward and reforward the stuff don't check if it's true or not.  They just get outraged and pass it on.

This is the way the birther crap started and the "Obama is a Muslim" crap spread faar and wide.  And when the lies are repeated on RW hate radio and Faux Made Up Newzzzz it sounds like a validation that it's true.

It's a well coordinated, viscious campaign of lies.

Be glad you don't get them.

      a huge mistake

not knowing what the GOP and think tanks are pumping through the stations to swiftboat dem candidates with rumors etc. is, as usual, going to cost some elections and issues losses.

i think dem offices all over the country could benefit from monitoring those local stations with transcript software that could be used to produce a daily searchable doc at little time or cost and may be well worth it.

i really bugged me during the whole scott walker episode that the limbaugh station there in madison WIBA would basically get a free speech free ride to attack the protestors all day and make excuses for walker ( who is basically rode the limbaugh bandwagon) and still get to piggyback U of Wisc badgers. i didn't hear of any protests at the radio stations of efforts to get the badgers to look for alternatives to what is totally partisan.

on the bright  side i just heard of an ad by dem cand in col Joe Miklosi saying Mike Coffman might as well have Rush Limbaugh running his campaign- (paraphasing- but he mentions limbaugh) good idea i think.

and i would at least suggest to local milwaukee dems to check in just once in a while on the local talkers on those RW stations  and if they take calls, getting a few well done calls in - thousands listen to those shows and a few quick challenges to the lies and certitude can make a big difference  IMO.

      •  We have 2 RWNJ stations in (0+ / 0-)

Milwaukee and their programming gets shipped all over the state.  It's hard to get calls through - if you do slip past their call screeners, the phone number gets an alert in their system so you'll never get through again.

On occassion they've been pwned by a caller who slips past their screener, but they get cut off or shouted down by the host who spends the rest of the segment pummelling the caller and deriding Dems and Liberals as well as pounding their chests about how strong they were in dealing with that riff raff.

I've tried to listen, but after a few minutes of their spew I just want to smash the radio.  It's awful, incendiary, and a collection of lies and BS.

        •  that's why it needs to be automatically transcribe (0+ / 0-)

d so all we have to do is search for the relevant stuff.

for instance, the name of the dem candidate or a particular issue- then there is ammo to take to the media.

it's going to ramp up in a major way now with all that money - they can put PR teams managing and coordinating the local content with paid callers and guests - they're going to be efficient with that talk radio time and if the dems don't know they've started an attack or lie  until it makes it into the mainstream, it's too late.
