    Shack.  The cardinal rule of lockouts is that you're locked out because the owners feel they have the upper hand.  In this case, they're right.  No games for a week (or worse, kickoff, fumble, stand around for 15 minutes) would break the lockout in a hurry.  The league would be destroyed by the TV networks, not to mention the increased attention from fans.  

    But there's too much money at stake for the players, many of whom probably live (like most of us do) at a standard sustainable by their paycheck.  They may have "played", but they waste a game's worth of progress towards contract incentives.  

    So yeah, when the owners get this letter they'll just roll it up and light cigars with it.  

    War doesn't determine who is right, only who is left. Better be left so you can determine later if you were right.
