    The DC-3's  Trans-Texas Airlines flew well into the 1970's had cockpit side windows that opened.  

    Conscientious pilots would fly with the windows open to cool the impossibly stuffy passenger compartment.  The DC-3's were a pre-WW II design and had minimal amenities.

    I remember one memorable flight from Austin to Odessa, where the pilot and some disagreeable politico, half-tanked from a lobbyist's luncheon engaged in a shouting match until the pilot slammed the cockpit door shut.  Soon the temperature inside the all-aluminum skin of the passenger cell climbed past 120.  We wilted.

    I wonder if Mitt's aviation knowledge dates from the same epoch of drunken politicians.
