    Its not like the gold piece gets filed down a little as it passes from the customer, through the salesman, and the tax man, into the treasure chest that's delivered to the stockholder.

    Plus, bondholders get preferential treatment. The idea of stock being the "capital" is a very old one.

    And it's inverted from its beginnings in the railroad industry, where it was typically sold for pennies on the "par value" (that was a concept that used to be very important) or given away as a "douceur"

    ... while the real money funneled into the railroad corporations came through complicated bond transactions -- usually through European markets.

    Thump! Bang. Whack-boing. It's dub!
