Who knows? The church has a way of involving itself in politics and motivating its member to act and staying on the down low for the most part. Prop 8 was a window into how they act, remember it.

And for everyone who says that "all Mormons don't do it, they are all not the same" you are right. There are lots of good Mormons, but don't discount how much this church wants Romney to be elected and how experience they are in political activism.

also opposed Prop 8, in a big way.  So if the girl wore a crucifix you would be talking about a Catholic cabal?

according to at least one poll.   Another poll shows something like 63% support it, and both are higher than the 54% of the general public who support equality.    In contrast, 72% of people in Utah oppose marriage equality.

That said, another poll shows that the LDS church positions on marriage and homosexuality are causing a loss of faith.

They're talking about the official position of the church, though.  The catholic church does have a view.  Most catholics just ignore it.

Should catholics get a pass for this?  How absurd!

Actually, this is how long standing bureaucratic institutions change.  Broad support within communities against a position the higher up hold.  Over time, the younger generations will take over and the older generations will be dead.

but my point was about the church members.    LDS members are overwhelmingly opposed to marriage equality.

Catholics apparently have the enlightened views they do because their church's teachings on divorce force them to understand the difference between a legal contract and a religious rite.
