He had just stated that it was good to keep expectations low, et al.

And then began: "So as far as I'm concerned,"

Obviously indicating in the vein of keeping expectations low that he would describe Obama thusly.  Not to mention, it's true Obama isn't the best debater.  He's gotten better at it, but he didn't do that well early in the Democratic primaries.

Fortunately, most politicians are not good debaters at all and Romney definitely is not.

    •  You're right, I was tired, I glazed over the (0+ / 0-)

thread prior to the comment. I was taking exception to the "we need to keep expectations low"etc.
I thought my comment was funny. I don't necessarily think Obama is a great debater, but the stuff he says usually resonates well and has some grounding in truth, where Romney never says anything that's true, so far as I can tell.
Even when he tells a true fact, he misuses it to provide a setup for a falsehood that follows.
I thought the replacing of "carbon" and "oxygen" with "reality" was funny and apt, in his case. It explains everything about him.

You can't make this stuff up.

A lot of politics depends on spin not objective reality and if the perception is that Obama beat the expectations it will be a "win" for Obama and help the campaign in the long run.

I am afraid that some are setting so high of a bar for Obama that they are running the risk that the mainstream media will portray a good Obama performance as a loss if he does not utterly destroy Romney in a debate.

And if we make our expectations for Romney low, this same media will portray Romney as a winner if he merely does not screw up.

While I appreciate reality, I also appreciate the necessity of spin, and my description of Obama in the comment was spin.
