A restaurant manager makes more than a waiter. A cook makes more than a dishwasher. A construction manager makes more than a laborer. A doctor makes more than a nurse. In all those cases, the lower paid worker does "harder" work, but in each case (and the school case as well) the higher skills are required at the top job, and if that person screws up the potential damage is much greater than if the lesser paid person screws up. (One teacher can screw up 30 kids, but a bad superintendent can screw up 400,000) so, I don't have a problem with the superintendent making 5 or 6 times a teachers salary.

THAT DOESN'T mean the teachers shouldn't get more it just means don't use the superintendents salary to make the point. Better off pointing out that the teachers get paid less than in other districts, or less per capita, or less compared to other professions that are comparable....

This whole idea that management or owners shouldn't be compensated more than the workforce is unsupportable, and a mistake. (No one would take on the work and headaches to own a restaurant if he only made a waiter's salary). There are millions of people who are qualified to teach, but there are NOT millions who would be competent supers. I don't expect to convince you if you refuse to believe it, but it's accepted economic orthodoxy by 99.9% of the non-communist population.

To conservatives, liberals are stupid. To Liberals, conservatives are insane. So..."Bipartisanship" is what happens when a lunatic and a moron find common ground.
