    I think acupuncture is great.  I get it for migraines and back pain.  And one day, I hope it will be covered.  (fast typer, not bad speller).  The issue is, as you know doubt know, is that a) insurance won't pay for treatment until it has been proven effective in clinical trials, and b) who runs 90% of clinical trials?  Pharmaceutical companies. If they found a way to make money on acupuncture - i.e. specially manufactured needles?   They would be on it in a flash.

    The few clinical trials that HAVE been conducted on the effectiveness of acupuncture had shown without doubt that it works for a range of symptoms - especially pain.  And no, it's not a 'placebo effect' - I take my dog to the acupuncturist for her arthritis.  I don't think she knows what the needles are for, but she runs and jumps after she's had a treatment!

    So my aim was not to minimize acupuncture, but to show how daunting the task of getting minimal levels of treatment that are broadly accepted as necessary (pre-natal visits, for example), paid for regardless of one's income.
